MEET SEAN
Hello fellow optimists! I’m Sean General. For me, life is an adventure. I love to travel. I’ve been to four co
ntinents so far. I like visiting places that are of historical significance. The Great Wall of China and the Great Pyramid in Egypt are such amazing sites! They’re huge! Trying foreign food in different countries is such a thrill. My tongue screams when I try to eat authentic Thai dishes though. I also like to observe the native people’s culture. I find Singaporeans a bit stiff though while Australians are very warm people.
One of the best experiences I’ve had was when I traveled back home from the US two years ago. Though I’ve had a lot of experience in traveling, I’ve never traveled on my own. I left it to my parents to take care of the paper work, the airport tax, the flight schedules and much more. So I was anxious when my cousin and aunt saw me off at the San Francisco airport at around 10 p.m. I said my goodbyes and walked to my gate. Since my flight was at midnight, I decided to take my time in a bookstore near my gate. I bought a magazine. I also bought a pack of beef jerky. Then I read and munched until the plane was ready for departure. When I entered the plane, I felt a bit scared because I didn’t have my family with me. However, this feeling soon passed when I had a movie marathon all the way to Hong Kong. When I arrived at Hong Kong airport, I decided to take a stroll since my flight to the Philippines was delayed. I ate a sandwich at the food court. I caught a cold after eating. I noticed that I ran out of tissue. So I went to Watson’s to buy a pack before I went back to my gate. After buying a pack of tissue, I heard a lady giving the last call to my flight! I ran towards my gate. It was farther than I anticipated. The airport is huge! Luckily I got there in time. When I arrived at Manila, anxiety got off my back. From then on, I knew what to do because I’ve been used to the airport’s procedure. I patiently waited for my bag and had nothing to declare when I exited the airport. My driver picked me up. The long journey was over. I didn’t realize that traveling alone could be fun.

I remember when I was in
elementary, my English teachers always asked us to write an autobiography. That’s like the basic paper you’ll ever write. I always start my essay this way “My name is MM Donato and I was born in November 18, 1987.” Now I realized that when you’re introducing yourself to someone you don’t exactly mention your birthday after you’ve said your name. I bet my name is not familiar to many of you because I don’t post personal blogs that often. If you click the “About Us” tab, you’ll find that I’m in charge of promoting this blog although I’m not really sure if I was able to accomplish that job. Honestly, I’m more than happy to be assigned in promotions because I’m not a good writer. Right now, I’m struggling writing this blog. Actually, come to think of it, I’m not really good at anything. I’m not being humble or unflattering myself but that’s how I see myself. Most of my acquaintances will probably remember me as the girl who plays tennis or the girl who has a big crush on Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter). Or perhaps most of them will remember me as the girl who has the strongest personality. Five friends of mine confessed to me that before we became close, they were intimidated by me or someone even said she was scared of me. They said I look like the person who can kill someone if they mess with me. I find it really funny.
As I was saying, I don’t excel in any specific talent or skill. For the past few days, I’ve been insecure with my intellectual capabilities. I don’t know if it’s just me or it is really happening, but I found myself in a situation where whenever I commit a stupid mistake, I feel like the people around me is laughing at me. I had the feeling that people think I’m unintelligent. Whenever I tried my best to prove them otherwise, I commit more mistakes. Aside from that, I think people see me as the girl who should be laughed at. This insecurity is really hard to overcome. And my temporary escape from this insecurity is prayer. At least for a moment, I feel relieved and happy about myself. And whenever I feel sad about my insecurities, I just tell myself that this will over soon. I know it will end soon.
A Letter from the Editor
Dear happy visitor,
I have always been a visionary. In case you are tempted to disagree, I can settle for: someone who enjoys dreaming. I have always taken delight in looking forward to the future. I have gotten excited about the creation of the future. It has fascinated me how we have that power to make our realities. But whatever I have imagined, it all had one thing in common; that whatever it is that my mind had visualized, I was happy.
Happiness. It means many things to different people. Love can lead to happiness. For others it's wealth or power. Many times, it can be as simple as just stargazing or skipping stones for me. But did it ever occur to you that in feeling good, we feel happiest when it is shared? I am lucky to have been pooled with wonderful and talented young minds who share that same vision. We want to be able to unfold blissfulness in each one that crosses our paths. This is not to be taken in a hedonistic way. Rather, that happiness is a powerful tool within, that what it can bring is something that is of value. We can never make other people smile, if we ourselves do not feel like smiling. We can change our lives and that of others just by simply finding that happiness in us. To take that further, we share happiness by helping raise funds for Make-A-Wish-Foundation through your donations.
We hope that in each of your visits here, you will find something in our blog pages that can bring you happy thoughts. We cross our fingers that through our isharehappiness blog, abundance of happiness will take place. We would like you to be a part of this. We would like your family and friends to be a part of this. We believe that through this blog, with you and in partnership with Make-A-Wish-Foundation, we will be able to grant wishes of terminally ill children. We envision this blog to be a venue of positivism. This may be too much to ask. But then again, I am a visionary slash dreamer together with a team of great people who are also making this happen. And at the end of the day, the best feeling in the world is to share happiness with others. I want that elated feeling every single day. Wouldn’t you?
